James Wallman is a futurist, author, and entrepreneur who has promoted the experience economy from 10 Downing Street in London to Google HQ in California. His best-selling book Stuffocation (Penguin, 2015) is about how people are spending, will spend, and should spend less on stuff — and more on experiences instead. Stuffocation has received TV, radio, and media coverage from Seoul to San Francisco. It has been translated into various languages, including Chinese, Korean, and Czech, and is sold from Helsinki to Nairobi and Melbourne.
James has given many talks to travel & hospitality industry audiences, including ILTM in Cannes, ALTM in Beijing, ABTA’s annual conference in Ljubljana, and Leading Hotels of the World’s annual conference in Amsterdam. He runs strategy and innovation consultancy The Future Is Here, which advises companies like Disney, Design Hotels, Richemont, and the architecture firm Rogers, Stirk Harbour + Partners. Based at Google’s TechHub, James runs a B2C startup that encourages people to spend less on stuff, more on experiences (it’s currently in stealth mode), and is on the board of US-based travel tech startup KeepTrax. He holds an MA in Journalism from the University of the Arts London, and an MA in Classics from Oxford University.
